Japan foot-and-mouth outbreak
The Japan foot-and-mouth outbreak was a foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak that occurred in 2010, in Miyazaki Prefecture, affecting cattle, swine, sheep and goats and taking place ten years after a similar outbreak in 2000. Located on the eastern coast of Kyūshū island, Japan, Miyazaki Prefecture plays a significant role in supplying top-quality Wagyū cattle used to breed livestock for the production of Wagyū beef throughout Japan including Matsuzaka and Ōmi.
